Representatives Pass Bill Seeking Judicial Officer Salary Increase


The basic compensation for other Supreme Court justices is N9,913,394.22 per year, or N826,116.19 per month.

 The bill, which was approved on Third Reading in the lower house on Wednesday, aims to amend the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No. 6, 2002 (as amended) by removing Section 2(b), Part II of the Schedule to the Act and any other provisions pertaining to Judicial Office Holders. The Chief Justice of Nigeria is entitled to the following: N51,157,948.21 annual regular allowances or N4,263,162.35 monthly regular allowances. 

The document obtained by Timbloggist indicates that the Chief Justice of Nigeria is also entitled to non-regular allowances (if applicable)


 A motor vehicle loan of N53,850,471.80 (to be repaid before the tenure expires), N142,500 Duty Tour Allowance (per night); $2,000 estacode (per night); a severance gratuity of N80,775,707.70 (after the tenure is successfully completed); and Professional Development Assistant (to be paid from the NJC pool).

The basic compensation for other Supreme Court justices is N9,913,394.22 per year or N826,116.19 per month. Additionally, each of them is eligible for monthly regular allowances of N4,213,192.54 or annual regular allowances of N50,558,310.52.

The non-regular allowances that each apex court judge is entitled to include: N9,913,394.22 for rent (yearly); N4,956,697.11 for leave allowance (when applicable); N100,000 for duty tour allowance (per night); $1,300 for estacode (per night); N29,740,182.66 for severance gratuity (after successful completion of tenure); N29,740,182.66 for furniture allowance; and N39,653,576.88 for motor vehicle loan.(to be reimbursed before to the tenure's termination), whereas the NJC pool will be used to pay the professional development assistant.This is even if TDP calls for the provision of their amenities and security.

However, the President of the Court of Appeal is qualified for a base salary of N9,913,394.22 per year or N826,116.19 per month.

In addition, each appellate court judge is entitled to the following non-regular allowances: N9,913,394.22 rent (annually); N4,956,697.11 leave allowance (when applicable); N100,000 duty tour allowance (per night); $1,300 estacode (per night); N29,740,182.66 severance gratuity (after successful completion of tenure); N29,740,182.66 furniture allowance; and N39,653,576.88 motor vehicle loan (to be repaid before expiration of tenure) Professional Development Assistant's salary will come from the NJC pool, however.
