On Monday, President Bola Tinubu made a plea to the governors of the different states, urging them to see to it that the wage awards given to workers in their states be paid.
Speaking at the project commissioning ceremony in Minna, Niger State, the President stated that paying salary awards would significantly lessen the financial strain on workers as they wait for a new minimum wage to be implemented.
It would also serve as a guide against inflationary policies, he continued.
The president emphasized that he is making an appeal to the governors rather than giving them instructions to see to it that the salary award is paid.
In addition to pushing the National Executive Council to adopt the pay award, Tinubu made a plea to all of the states to do the same.
In his words, "If all of you, While the new salary wage is being determined, the sub-nationals have been paying the wages award. Permit each state to begin disbursing the salary award. The public would be relieved by whatever they are currently taking plus the salary award.

"I'm not giving commands; rather, I'm pleading with the states to begin paying the wage awards so that everyone can begin doing so. For the people, it is a relief. The idea is that in a few weeks or months, people would have acclimated to the basic rate of N30,000 plus the wages award, so there won't be an inflationary effect, and the market will be dampened. Please gather the sub-nationals, and the NEC ought to accept this.
A detailed program to handle the problems of violent attacks, livestock rustling, and other security-related issues was also laid forth by Tinubu.
"Give me a week or two." You'll be present when Nigeria's new livestock policy is introduced. I am aware of the potential for economic damage caused by roving cows devouring our fields' crops and greenery; however, this can be avoided if we reposition the herders and provide infrastructure for the rearing of cattle. The lands should be provided by the governors, and as president, I promise to offer you with a thorough plan that would address this issue," he continued.
