Nigerians are in sorrow for their beloved Mr. Ibu, also known as John Okafor, a well-known Nollywood actor who passed away at the age of 62.
"I announce that Mr. Ibu did not make it," stated Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas on Saturday. "I announce with [a] deep sense of grief."
The actor suffered a heart arrest, he claimed.
Two decades ago, Okafor gained notoriety for his role in the movie Mr. Ibu, which gave rise to his lifelong nickname.
It is still recognized as one of the greatest comedic roles ever played by a Nigerian actor.
He went on to appear in over 200 Nollywood productions, such as the Mr. Ibu sequels, Keziah, and 9 Wives.

Local sources claim that Okafor passed away in an unidentified hospital in the state of Lagos.
The public first learned about the actor's health problems last year. In November, he had to amputate one of his legs due to donations made by supporters through a crowd-funding campaign for his medical expenses.
Since then, he has been accused of hacking into his phone and stealing $60,700 (£47,800) for himself. His son Daniel Okafor and adoptive daughter Jasmine Chioma have been placed under custody.
Since their arrest in January, the two have been silent. They are scheduled to appear in court again on March 11 for this hearing.
