A shipment of illegal drugs that was hidden in the engine compartment of an interstate commercial bus was discovered by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
In addition, the agency raided two "skuchies" factories located in the states of Osun and Lagos, concurrently with the apprehension of two grandparents for suspected drug trafficking.
In a statement released on Sunday, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi stated that during a stop-and-search operation on Gbongan-Ibadan Road in Osun State on Thursday, March 7, NDLEA officers found 5.2 kg of cannabis sativa and opioids in the engine compartment of an interstate commercial bus bearing the license plate VDY 187 XA.
According to Babafemi, Iorliam Dominic, a 35-year-old bus driver who admitted to the concealment, was arrested.
"On Wednesday, March 6, a 26-year-old woman named Obasanmi Esther Iyanu, who manufactures and sells skuchies, was taken into custody during an operation on her hiding place in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State. During the operation, at least 16.5 liters of the illegal narcotic as well as various amounts of molly and cannabis were found on her, according to an agency representative.
In a similar line, NDLEA agents in Borno State have detained 65-year-old Yamama Musa and 70-year-old Mallam Mai Gemu Adam for drug trafficking. 32,000 ampoules of tramadol injection were found on them when they were seized on Saturday, March 9, together with 24-year-old Abubakar Ya'u and Babagana Abubakar Ali, 28. They were detained in Maiduguri and Gamboru-Ngala, respectively.
"The same day, agents at Geidam in Yobe State stopped a Golf 3 salon car that was traveling to Gagamari in the Niger Republic. The driver, Alhaji Mala Tijjani, 28, was scheduled to deliver 40 blocks of cannabis, each weighing 24.5 kg, to another dealer. On Tuesday, March 5, 42 cartons, each containing 8,400 bottles of codeine syrup, weighing 1,260 kg, were found inside the vehicle belonging to Mutari Ya'u, 29, at Katsina road in Kaduna.
In Kano State, the agency reported that on Thursday, March 7, Mohammad Alkali, 28, was discovered in possession of 49,800 tramadol pills on the Kano-Maiduguri Road, and 35-year-old Nura Yusuf was detained with 62 kg of cannabis in the Gadar Tamburawa area. Abubakar Sani, 40, was also apprehended there with 244 bottles of codeine syrup
Babafemi added that Aba Thomas was taken into custody by NDLEA agents in Lagos on Wednesday in the Igbo Elerin region of the state. Upon his detention, 84 liters of skuchies, 1.1 liters of codeine syrup, 4 kg of cannabis sativa, and 800 225 mg tramadol tablets were found on him.
"On Friday, NDLEA officers raided the infamous Karu abattoir drug joint in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and seized 51.3kg of cannabis from the suspects, leading to the arrest of no fewer than eight suspects." A number of people have been arrested, including Shamsu Lawali, Abubakar Wappa, Yahaya Tasiu, Abba Haruna, Ezekiel Mulanda, Habibu Umar, and Buhari Muhammadu.
On Monday, March 4, two suspects—Pam Thomas, 45, and Stephen Nyam, 38—were taken into custody in Plateau State in Zawan, Jos South, with cannabis weighing 611.428 kg, while NDLEA agents were in Kogi State.
On Wednesday, March 6th, from Anambra State to Zaria, Kaduna State, along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway, 8,580 pills of tramadol and exol-5 were found on the person of Yusuf Abdullahi, 40, a suspect.
The statement further stated, "On Tuesday, March 5, operatives in Enugu raided some locked-up shops at the new market in the Enugu metropolitan area, wherein 9.49g of methamphetamine and 371.42kg of cannabis were recovered."
