Senator Ningi Resigns As Chairman Of The Northern Senators Forum

Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central has resigned from his position as the Northern Senators Forum chairman.

His departure from the role comes after the Nigerian Senate suspended him on Tuesday due to accusations of inflating the budget.

In his letter of resignation, Ningi stated that the events taking place in the north, the National Assembly, and Nigeria as a whole informed his choice.

"I would like to resign as chairman of the Northern Senators Forum," the member wrote in a personally signed letter to the forum secretary. Naturally, what is happening in the North, the National Assembly, and the country as a whole calls for this.

"I would especially like to express my gratitude to the forum participants for providing me with the chance to lead this crucial discussion group for the past eight months.  

"I think this forum is essential to the development of northern Nigeria and very important." The Letter reads" 

Senator Abdul Ningi, the National Assembly representative for Bauchi Central, earlier accused the Senate of budget padding.

Ningi is said to have accused the National Assembly of inflating the 2024 budget by a staggering N3.7 trillion in an interview with BBC Hausa.

Senator Abdul Ningi was suspended by the Senate on Tuesday, nevertheless, because of remarks he made in which he claimed the National Assembly had added an untraceable N3.7 trillion to the 2024 budget, which was unrelated to any particular project.

On Monday, Ningi declared that he was prepared to bear his cross, even if it meant being suspended from the upper house of parliament.
