The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has threatened to use force to carry out Justice Emeka Nwite's Wednesday ruling for the arrest of Yahaya Bello, the immediate former governor of Kogi.

Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), the attorney for the EFCC, made the threat on Thursday and charged that Usman Ododo, Bello's replacement, had thwarted his client's attempts to carry out the order on Wednesday.

"Ohello, a person with immunity (Ododo) came to whisk him (Bello) away to abort his arrest," Pinheiro stated.We are aware that he is being housed in the home of his successor. A person is granted immunity, not a structure. 

"We can request that the military enter the structure where he is being held in order to carry out the directive of this court," he murmured.

Pinheiro stated that "what is edifying for him (Bello) is to come to court and not to continue to play game," pointing out that the law permits the EFCC to enter a building in order to make an arrest.

He should provide the prosecution until next week to present the defendant, saying, "We know what to do," before the court. He is not allowed to obstruct the Constitution.

Boat explodes in Bayelsa, confirming the deaths of 20 passengers.

At Ezetu 1 Community in the Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State, some 20 people were burnt to death on Wednesday night when the engine of a wooden market boat, also known as the "Denghe market boat," exploded in the middle of the river and sank. Rescue efforts are still underway to retrieve the drowned occupants of the unfortunate boat, according to ASP Musa Muhammad, the public relations officer for the Bayelsa State Police, who confirmed the event to reporters yesterday. "A mishap occurred on the local boat that was traveling from Ekeni community in Southern Ijaw to Yenagoa. It is reported that approximately twenty people lost their lives, and efforts are currently underway to recover their corpses," the speaker stated.
