FG designates Tue and Wed as vacations for Sallah; Tinubu lands in Lagos

To commemorate the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, the Federal Government has designated Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays.

This was revealed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako, in a statement released on Sunday by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The minister gave the Muslim Ummah congratulations for successfully finishing the fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

As demonstrated by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to emulate and practice the values of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighborliness, and compassion.

"To commemorate Eid-el-Fitr, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as public holidays," the statement stated.

Upon arriving at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri, Shettima was greeted by party chieftains, state executive council members, and Alhaji Umar Kadafur, the deputy governor of Borno.

As is customary during such festive times, security has been stepped up in Maiduguri and the surrounding areas.

Depending on the Lunar calendar, which marks the beginning of the new Islamic month of Shawwal, the celebration of Eid-El-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan fasting, is anticipated to take place on Tuesday or Wednesday.

"Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Interior Minister, congratulates all Muslim

Along with other senior government figures, Tinubu was greeted at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State.

Ajuri Ngelale, the president's special adviser on media and publicity, revealed in a statement on Saturday that Tinubu would signal the conclusion of the Ramadan fast in Lagos.

"The President will observe the moment in prayers for Nigeria and with family in deference to the solemn occasion, which marks the end of Ramadan," Ngelale stated.

The Nigerian leader would "continue official duties during and after the Eid-el-Fitr holidays," according to Ngelale, who did not provide a specific return date for Tinubu.

Additionally, Kashim Shetima, the vice president, arrived in Maiduguri on Sunday ahead of the Eid-El-Fitr holiday.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
