To Remove Former Governor Bello From Kogi Govt House, We Might Need To Use Force — EFCC

Yahaya Bello, the immediate former governor of Kogi State, is under threat from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to come out of hiding.

Over the past two weeks, there has been a game of hide and seek between the commission and the former governor.

On Wednesday, the commission broke into Bello's Abuja home in an attempt to arrest him, but they were prevented from doing so by outside forces.

Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution (as modified) grants his successor, Governor Ahmed Ododo, protection, hence it is possible that the previous governor was hiding in the Kogi State Government House.

The FBI's search has been for Bello, to place him under arrest on charges of mishandling funds while serving as governor.

This Thursday was Bello's scheduled court appearance, but he was not present, thus the arraignment could not proceed.

Attorney for the EFCC, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, informed the court during Thursday's proceedings that Bello will be brought before the court for his trial, even if that means using the military to apprehend him.

In order to get Yahaya Bello out of hiding, he may need to be invited by the military, he stated.

"Immunity does not cover him where he is hiding, so we may need to use force to get him out.

Nobody is exempt from the law. The governor alone is immune; those around him are not.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
