The president of the NLC, made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, May 1. The Nation reported that Ajaero called the federal government's 35 percent pay rise to civil servants "mischievous." The NLC president also mentioned that the previous minimum wage of N30,000 expired on April 18, The Cable reported. "We should be in the regime of new minimum wage," Ajaero stated.
Recall that the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorized raises for civil officials' salaries ranging from 25% to 35% across a number of consolidated wage systems. According to The Nation, Ajaero called the federal government's 35 percent salary increase for civil servants "mischievous." The NLC president further stated that, as The Cable noted, the previous N30,000 minimum wage ended on April 18. "We should be under the new minimum wage regime as of today," he declared. The discussions were expected to be over. See https://www.legit.ng/nigeria/1590412-tinubus-35-pay-rise-mischievous-nlc-update-payment-n615000-minimum-wage/ for additional information.
Since the government isn't offering a pay raise, I believe the announcement now seems playful. We in the NLC and even at the TUC are concerned about this issue given their recent announcement.
Legit.ng earlier revealed that FG said the new minimum salary will go into effect on May 1, 2024. It further stated that workers will not lose anything even though the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage was still negotiating. The state minister for labor, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, revealed this event on Wednesday, May 1, when she spoke to Nigerian workers at the celebration of May Day in Abuja. The minister regretted that the new minimum wage had not yet been implemented for the May Day festivities. She also mentioned that extensive consultation was still going on to guarantee the new minimum wage was declared right away.
