NOUN Accredits 28,514 New Students.

28,514 new students have been admitted to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to study a variety of courses in the university's several faculties.

Professor Olufemi Peters, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, stated that 7,460 students are enrolled in postgraduate programs and 21,026 students are enrolled in undergraduate programs during his remarks at the 26th matriculation ceremony, which took place in Abuja on Friday.

28 postgraduate students were registered for doctorate degrees, according to a press release from the Vice Chancellor that was signed by Ibrahim Sheme, Director, NOUN, Media and Publicity.

"By this, you have today become members of our Open and Distance Learning (ODL) community comprising of approximately 150,000 students," stated Prof. Peters, according to a quote.

in 120 Study Centers spread around the 36 states of Nigeria as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. "A lot of people would be curious about your character and academic achievement. Therefore, I beg of you to represent the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in an honorable and deserving manner.

"I am excited to congratulate you upon finishing your studies and joining other accomplished colleagues at Convocation to receive certificates and prizes. This is your reward and proof that you are ready to face the challenges of life outside of our walls, both virtually and physically."

He noted that every new student, together with their families, friends, stakeholders, and dependents, expressed a desire for this.

Additionally, for Nigeria to advance and take its rightful place in the grandeur in the contemporary and upcoming global and competitive globe," he continued.

"It enables you to learn at your choice of place and pace, regardless of your social or religious status and other engagements, such as a vocation or employment," Prof. Peters noted while discussing the significance of open and distance learning (ODL). It is true that you must set aside time and practice self-discipline for extensive self-study.

"It differs significantly from traditional university systems where lectures are always held in classrooms or auditoriums."

He gave the newcomers the assurance that they would have access to a variety of resources needed for their studies, such as real and virtual libraries with over 40,000 book and journal titles, study rooms,

and journals, science labs, halls for in-person and online exams, facilitation rooms, and, in certain special centers, incubator spaces for students interested in entrepreneurship for their training and development at their study centers.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
