Officially Introduced As Super Eagles Coach Finidi George

At the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Monday, Minister of Sports Development John Enoh formally introduced former international Finidi George as the head coach of the Nigerian senior men national team, the Super Eagles.
Daniel Amokachi, a former national teammate, and two foreigners have also been selected by the Super Eagles coach to serve as assistants.

After being formally introduced to the media as the new head coach in Abuja, Finidi made the statement.

Olatunji Baruwa, the goalkeeper's trainer, was also kept on by him.

Under Jose Peseiro, Baruwa held the same role. The identities of the two foreign assistants would be made public prior to the Super Eagles 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Benin's squirrels and South Africa's Bafana Bafana.

The 53-year-old former Ajax player, who resigned from his position as head coach of Enyimba on Sunday in order to focus on his new role, stated that winning the next two qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic is his immediate goal.
"The two World Cup qualifying matches we have against South Africa and the Benin Republic are the major step and target for me." We have set the tone if we can win the matches, and we'll take it from there, George stated.

He asked for help from the media, stating that the task would not be simple.
"I'll do all in my power to ensure that the team plays well and begins to win games. Therefore, I don't think I'm under any pressure, and I just want to beg of all of you in the media: please, we need your help.

Finidi remarked, "This is not an easy job for anybody, but if we work together, we will achieve."

The ex-winger for Nigeria was named in the substantive in his role as the Nigerian team's head coach following the dismissal of Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro.

During the most recent African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the squad ended in second place, he assisted Peseiro.

A few weeks ago, George's hiring was made public when he temporarily assumed leadership of the squad for the international friendly against Ghana and Mali.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
