Ondo 2024: INEC Sets May 20 as the Deadline for Gov'ship Candidate List Submission

Political parties have until May 20, 2024, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to submit their lists of candidates for the next Ondo State gubernatorial election.

The order was given during an important gathering of chairmen and senior leaders from different political parties at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
In his speech to the party delegates, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu emphasized the significance of this deadline.

"I implore all political parties to finalize their nominees and submit their names by our portal's closing date of May 20th," he said.

The meeting, scheduled for the second quarterly meeting of 2024, is important because of part in the run-up to the state elections, which include the September governorship contest in Edo State.

For the Edo election, INEC has already finalized and released the list of candidates and their running mates.
Shehu Gabam of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Julius Abure of the Labour Party (LP), and Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), were among the prominent guests at the gathering.

"It is imperative that all participating parties fully comply with the electoral guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent election process," Professor Yakubu said in order to emphasize the importance of strict adherence to election guidelines.

Political parties are anticipated to intensify their efforts to comply with INEC's standards as the deadline draws near, laying the groundwork for what anticipates being a fiercely contested election.
