Police ASP and Complicity Arrested Regarding Presumed Kidnapping of Children in Sokoto

The arrest of a Sokoto State Police Command officer and an accomplice for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of five juveniles in the state has been confirmed.

Investigations into the incident have begun, according to Command Spokesman ASP Ahmad Rufai, who also verified the arrest of Elizabeth, an accomplice, and the officer only known as ASP Kulu.

Recall that the FCT Police Command detained Elizabeth and Kulu, an assistant superintendent of police, on suspicion of kidnapping five children—among them a baby girl who was less than two weeks old—from Sokoto State.

"Both the suspects and the victims were transfer and handed over to the order from the FCT Police Command to look into the situation more thoroughly " the spokesperson stated.

Three babies under the age of two were among those taken, as was Asmau Ya'u, five, who was allegedly kidnapped en route to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

The suspects were reportedly detained while riding a commercial 18-seater bus from Sokoto to Abuja. Passengers reportedly saw that the suspects were unable to nurse the children throughout the demanding seven-hour ride, and they reported this to the police near Abuja.

According to Sirajo Madawaki, a representative of the Sokoto State Human Rights Network, the issue was moved from Abuja to the network, and an inquiry has since been launched.

He promised that the network would follow the situation through to conclusion to guarantee that the children were reunited with their respective parents while the perpetrator was being prosecuted.

Prior to her journey to Sokoto, the suspect, ASP Kulu, who was allegedly serving with the Kubwa Division, had requested a leave of absence, but it had not been approved.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
