During a sting operation, members of the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Command, apprehended individuals suspected of being auto thieves, armed robbers, and "one-chance" operators. The accused also had three stolen vehicles found on them.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, paraded the suspects in Abuja. He stated that on May 1, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., police officers from Apo Legislative Quarters followed and apprehended two well-known auto theft suspects based on reliable information.
Anthony Chibuzor and his companion Jonas Chikwe, both men from Lagos State, were identified by CP Igweh as the suspects. They were both on the Command's wanted list and were members of a renowned auto theft gang that terrorized the Federal Capital Territory and its surrounding areas.
He added three more things, During the operations, vehicles that the suspects had not provided a good explanation for were found.
Some of the automobiles have had their chassis numbers changed by the suspects. These include a Toyota Camry with registration number Lagos 23, an Audi A4 with registration number KRD 349 JD, and a Honda Accord Sports with registration number BDG 42 JC.
He continued by saying that on April 15, 2024, at roughly 9:45 a.m., agents also moved in response to a report from Magaji Umar at Lugbe Division, who stated that on April 14, 2024, he boarded a vehicle from Lugbe heading to Area 1, but was abruptly attacked by the two occupants in the moving vehicle and forced to part with N2, 230,000.00, which was taken from him.
The police officer responded by giving the thugs a fierce pursuit, which forced them to get out of their car and start running. Four suspects were apprehended by police officers after information found in the vehicle led them to believe they were Mohammed Lawal, Hamza Ibrahim, Mubarak Abubakar, and Abubakar Suleiman.
"CP Igweh said that the suspects who voluntarily admitted to committing the crime will face charges in court shortly."
CP Igweh went on to say that on May 12, 2024, at approximately 11:26 p.m., someone named Kabiru Umar of the same location broke into his point of sale. This was in response to a report from Mohammed Musa of Durumi on the same date.
