A 23-year-old Rachel Geoffrey has been taken into custody by the police for setting fire to her co-wife's two children's hands in Adamawa State.
Genesis Geoffrey, age seven, and Ijadai Geoffrey, age three, suffered serious injuries at the hands of Racheal, a resident of the Federal Housing Estate in the state's Girei local government district.
It was reported that the mother of the victims and her father, the husband, had split up.
It was reported that Racheal had prepared rice and reserved it for her spouse, who coincidentally was the victims' father. She allegedly left when the starving children stole and consumed their father's food.
Enraged by this, Rachel proceeded to incapacitate them by tying kerchiefs around their hands before lighting a fire to their hands, causing them to suffer serious wounds.
CP Dankombo Morris, the state's commissioner of police, gave advice to the general population, especially parents, telling them to provide their offspring the necessities of life.
He also promised that the case will be prosecuted with diligence.
