World Hypertension Day: Organization Promotes Early Screening for Control and Early Detection

Leading medical consulting firm Asclepius Consulting has advocated for early screening to identify and manage hypertension (HBP).

The company called for Friday, May 17, 2024, to be observed as World Hypertension Day, with the theme "Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer."

World Hypertension Day is a global event that aims to reduce the prevalence of high blood pressure, improve the accuracy of blood pressure readings, and control non-communicable diseases associated with hypertension, particularly in low- and middle-income nations like Nigeria.

According to a statement made available by Dr. Seun Williams, Client Services Executive at Asclepius Consulting, precise blood pressure monitoring is essential for the efficient diagnosis, prevention, and management of elevated blood pressure.

This may be accomplished, he said, by using clinically approved automated devices, following the right procedure measurement, and properly preparing the patient. Nigerians are encouraged by Asclepius Consulting and its partners to take part in World Hypertension Day by getting their blood pressure checked and learning everything there is to know about the risk factors that can result in hypertension. In communities in Nigeria, these tests and education programs on physical activity, stress reduction, lifestyle changes, and lowering dietary salt intake help lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and renal disease.

Williams went on to say that many people with hypertension are unaware that they have it as there may not be any symptoms, and that people frequently only learn about their condition after experiencing a heart attack or stroke, which is why high blood pressure is referred to as "the silent killer."

Since the beginning of 2024, "Asclepius Consulting and partners have screened over 100,000 Nigerians for high blood pressure in various public health facilities and plan to screen another 100,000 Nigerians before the end of the year," he continued.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
