According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nasarawa State Command. Between July 2023 and June 2024, 7,149 kg of drugs were seized.
This was revealed by Peter Onche-Odaudu, the state's NDLEA commander, during a news conference on Thursday in Lafia.
As part of the week-long celebration of the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking, there was a briefing held.
Despite the enormous logistical obstacles and lack of funding, Onche-Odaudu remarked that the difficult effort of combating the threat of drug usage and illicit trafficking has yielded some small successes.
He claimed that of the seizures, 7,037.2 kg were caused by cannabis sativa, 0.011 kg by cocaine, 0.185 kg by methamphetamine, and 111.534 kg by various psychotropic drugs.
As the commander put it The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking is observed on June 26 of each year by member nations of the United Nations.
He said that this year's theme for the Day, "The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention," was appropriate because it emphasized the need of prevention over treatment when it comes to drug usage problems.
