The supply date for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has been pushed back from June to mid-July, according to a statement from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.
Aliko Dangote, the refinery's president and chief executive officer (CEO), explained the postponement as a minor inconvenience but gave the public assurance that the refinery's gasoline would be available for purchase by the second or third week of July.
Dangote revealed this on Sunday during a tour of the $20 billion facility in Lagos with a team of senators led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
"We had a little delay, but PMS will begin to come out between July 10 and 15, but then we want to keep to let it to settle in the tank. We will be able to sell it in the market by the third week of July.
Akpabio congratulated Dangote on the refinery project, calling it the "ninth wonder of the world."
The 350,000 barrels-per-day refinery in Lagos started up operations last December. Additionally, the refinery has started providing aviation fuel and diesel to national marketers.
Oil merchants were hopeful that the Dangote Refinery's gasoline pricing would be far less than the retail costs of the imported refined product, which vary by region and range from N568 to N700.
