A portion of the palace belonging to the ousted Kano Emir, Ado Bayero, is to be demolished, per an order from the Kano State Government.
This occurs soon after the Federal High Court's decision on Thursday, which overturned the actions taken to abrogate the Kano Emirates Council Law.
State Attorney General (AG) Haruna Isah Dederi told reporters on Thursday in Kano that the police have been ordered by the state government to seize control of the emir's palace in Nassarawa Local Government Area (LGA). The Kano State Government sees the Federal High Court's decision respecting the rule of law and acknowledges it with reference to the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Law, 2024.
The court's decision has categorically upheld the legality of the legislation that the Kano State House of Assembly passed and that His Excellency, the state's executive governor, signed into law on Thursday, May 23, 2024, by 5:10 p.m.
"This section of the Making a decision is crucial to the whole situation. The decision also implies that the Government's previous measures, up until the appearance of the honorable court's temporary injunction, are equally justified.
This indicates that the federal high court has upheld both the deposition of the five emirs and the elimination of the five emirates that were established in 2019.
This implies that Muhammadu Sanusi II is still the Emir of Kano. Additionally, the judge approved our request for a suspension of proceedings until the court of appeals resolves the jurisdictionally-related appeal.
Thankfully, on May 23, 2024, the legislation was signed and His Highness, Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, was restored prior to the issuance of the temporary order, which we received on Monday, May 27, 2024.
On May 25, 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf issued an order for Bayero's expulsion and arrest, alleging that despite his dismissal, he was still causing unrest in the state. But Bayero couldn't be arrested because of the troops and police officers manning the miniature palace as security.
