Amusan, who holds the world record in the women's 100-meter hurdles, won her fourth Nigerian title on Monday at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria's National Trials, which are being held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City, Edo State.
She finished in a time of 12.78 seconds, faster than Adaobi Tabugbo, who came in second in 13.33 seconds.
The AFN will utilize the competition, which concludes this Tuesday, to choose participants for the Olympics in Paris, the Africa Championships in Cameroon later this month, and the World U-20 Championship in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to August 31.
Amusan had qualified for the Olympics, but she won her title in Benin-City by running a flawless race.
The 27-year-old has achieved several successes this season, including setting two records for the African 60-meter hurdles (indoor) in January and February and taking the world lead at the Jamaican Invitational in May.
Amusan is aiming to place on the podium in her third Olympics, which will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
The two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, two-time African champion, three-time African Games gold medalist, and three-time (consecutive) Diamond League winner has competed in two Olympic Games (Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016).
On her debut in 2016, she failed to go past the heats. In the most recent event held in Tokyo, she finished fourth, just missing the podium.
But the Nigerian champion claimed she is not under any pressure to medal in the games in Paris.
No pressure, just enjoy yourself. No pressure, just one race at a time, one day at a time. We'll undoubtedly be in Paris when the time comes, Amusan declared in May during the Atlanta City Games.
