June 12: There is hunger and Nigeria's democracy has a long way to go. Sani Shehu

Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central, stated on Wednesday that Nigeria's democracy still has a ways to go.

Despite the celebration of Democracy Day, Sani claimed that there is a great deal of hunger and suffering in the nation.

In response to Tinubu's pledge on Democracy Day that his changes would be successful, he was acting.

"The reforms we have initiated are intended to create a stronger, better foundation for future growth," stated Tinubu at the time. Without a question, the reforms have brought forth difficulties. Nevertheless, these are the long-term fixes that the economy needs in order to be fixed so that everyone may access the economy and receive just recompense for their labor and efforts.

"As we proceed to improve the economy; I promise to never abandon you and will always pay attention to what the people have to say. In keeping with this, we have been transparent and sincere in our negotiations with organized labor over a new national minimum wage. We want to submit an executive measure to the National Assembly shortly, which will codify the agreements reached into law for the next five years or fewer.

"There is so much hardship and hunger in the land," Sani commented on X in response. Our nation will become better, safer, and more peaceful the sooner the changes take effect and put a stop to the growing poverty in the nation.Though we still have a long way to go, we have made great progress. Democracy ought to not be a government set up by the majority in order to serve the interests of the minority. We must not give up on our efforts to build a better nation.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
