JUST-IN: Deceased AgoF Otunla Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla, 69

Former accountant-general of the Federation (AGF), purportedly passed away in a UK hospital that isn't publicly acknowledged.

Otunla, who was born on June 12, 1955, passed away a few days after turning 69.

According to a source, the former AGF recently visited the UK for treatment of an undisclosed illness.

Our insider source said, "I can tell you that he passed away in the hours between Sunday, June 17, and Monday, June 17.

He was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) while he was still living.

"He was being pursued in relation to two cases: the purported misappropriation of around N24 billion intended for the dismissal of employees from the now-defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and N2 billion purportedly obtained from the National Security Advisor's Office (ONSA).

The insider continued, "Along the way, he reimbursed the Federal Government to the tune of a few billion naira."

Otunla, originally from Oyo State, was a member of the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) board of directors.

Baptist High School in Saki served as his secondary school, and in 1972, he graduated with a West African School Certificate. He then continued his education at University of Ife, which is now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in financial accounting.

Although he obtained his chartered accountancy certification in 1986, he was awarded the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) fellowship in 1998.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb.
