The federal government declared that President Bola Tinubu will have additional discussions before making a decision, delaying the desire of Nigerian workers for a new national minimum wage to help them deal with the current cost of living problem.
Following President Tinubu's preside over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday, Mohammed Idris, the minister of information, revealed this to reporters from the State House.
Idris disclosed that although the president had received a report from the tripartite committee tasked with finding a solution, more talks are necessary due to the issue's intricacy.
The minister clarified that the issue had been discussed by the Federal Executive Committee However, in the end, they chose to rescind the decision immediately. "So I want to state that on the new national minimum wage, Mr. President is going to consult further so that he can have an informed position because the new national minimum wage, like I said, is not just an issue of the federal government:
it affects the state governments, the local governments, and the organized private sector, and that is why it is called national minimum wage. It's not just an affair of the federal government," the union stated.
