Moshood Abiola National Stadium is a multifunctional national sports stadium situated in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. It was originally known as National Stadium, Abuja. In addition to housing the Nigerian national football team, the stadium is the hub for a number of social, cultural, and religious events. On July 18, 2000, the Federal Government of Nigeria gave its approval to the contract for building the National Stadium complex and Games Village. The stadium was built to accommodate the October 2003 hosting of the 8th All Africa Games. President Muhammadu Buhari declared on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, that the National Stadium in Abuja will now be known as Moshood Abiola National Stadium in honor of M.K.O. Abiola, a prominent former Nigerian politician.[2] This was said by President Buhari.
