Juliet Ukhurebor, a 42-year-old suspect in human trafficking, has admitted to forcing her victims to recite an oath before leaving the nation in order to prevent them from defying her orders.
Ukhurebor made the admission in front of reporters in Benin City on Wednesday. He was detained by members of the Edo State Taskforce on Human Trafficking, along with a woman named Joy Osawe.
The accused stated, "I followed my daughter's instructions who asked for a Nigerian female nanny while she was living in India.
"My daughter spent money on the potential nannies' travel documents, and she wanted to ensure that they wouldn't arrive and flee or refuse to reimburse her for the costs she paid for their paperwork, so she asked them to swear."
Secretary for the taskforce, Mrs. Pauline Irusota stated that Rita Godwin, a 25-year-old, petitioned for the suspects to be taken into custody.
Irusota clarified that the primary suspect proceeded to fabricate Ghanaian passports and other documentation for the victims in order to smuggle them into India, working with her daughter, who is living in India.
She went on to say that the suspect was successful in getting Juliet Osagie, one of the victims, into India.
The taskforce secretary continued, saying that the petitioner, upon learning of the development, declined to make the final travel to Abuja, en way to India. The major suspect only disclosed to the victims after the oath.
"After the petitioner declined to travel Threats to pay N8 million, the amount needed to process her travel documents, were made against the petitioner by the lead suspect and a native doctor from Enugu State upon their arrival in India.
"The main suspect was apprehended at her shrine, and upon the investigators' request, a native pot filled with mixtures was found as evidence," the speaker continued.
