The Nigerian government has announced the end of the age of high gasoline costs, launching a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) program to provide a cost-effective and sustainable alternative fuel for transportation. Michael Oluwagbemi, Project Director and CEO of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, made the news at the Park to Park CNG Mobilization program in Lagos.
According to the Daily Post, the effort, which seeks to encourage the use of CNG as a sustainable alternative fuel, will cost N36 billion to supply 30,000 free CNG conversion kits across the country. Each conversion package, including installation fees, is worth N1.2 million per vehicle. .
Oluwagbemi promised Nigerians that the usage of CNG will result in significant fuel price savings. "The days of paying N750, N800, or N1,000 per liter of fuel are over. We will not do this again. His response was: "We will start using the gas under our feet to buy it at N230 per kilogram."
