Nigeria's First Visually Impaired Professor Passes Away The first visually impaired professor in Nigeria,
Professor Jibril Isa Diso of Kano, passed away, according to a statement released on Friday by Lamara Garba, Head of the Directorate of Public Affairs at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
The renowned educator Professor Diso was born in the Diso quarters of the Gwale local government area of Kano State. He currently works at BUK in the Department of Special Education.
Diso started working at Bayero University's Department of Special Education in 1994. In 2019, he achieved a noteworthy milestone in his academic career by becoming the first visually impaired professor in Nigeria. Prior to this, in 1991, he received his PhD in Special Education from the University of Birmingham in London, which was a noteworthy accomplishment in his academic career.
Academician Diso's groundbreaking work and contributions to special education have made a lasting impression on the academic world. Many have been impressed by his commitment to education and his support of the blind and visually handicapped.
The notification further stated that the late Professor Diso's funeral prayer was to be held at the Abdullahi Bin Abbas Juma'at Mosque in Sabon Titi, Gidan Kankara, Kano State, on Friday.
