US President Joe Biden has withdrawn his bid for reelection in response to demands from fellow Democrats to replace him due to his apparent poor health and recent debate performance against former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
On Sunday night, President Biden made his choice public, thereby terminating his campaign for reelection.
Biden stated that his choice was "in the best interest of my party and the country" in a letter to Americans.
In addition, he pledged to address the country this coming week to provide further information on the progress.
Writing as President Bident, "My Fellow Americans,"We as a nation have come a long way in the last three and a half years.
The American economy is the strongest in the world right now. We've invested historically in reconstructing our country, in in providing seniors with more inexpensive prescription drugs and reaching a record number of Americans with access to affordable health care. We have given a million veterans who were exposed to harmful toxins the desperately required care. enacted the first gun safety legislation in three decades.
the first female African American appointee to the Supreme Court. and enacted the most important climate law in global history. America is in a stronger position than ever to take the lead.
"I am aware that without the American people, none of this would have been possible. Together, we surmounted the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression as well as a once-in-a-century epidemic. We've managed to safeguard and maintain our democracy. Additionally, we have strengthened and rejuvenated our global alliances.
"It Being your President has been the greatest honor of my life. Even though I had intended to run for reelection, I think it would be better for my party and the nation if I stepped down and spent the balance of my term concentrating only on my obligations as President.
"I will go into further detail about my choice when I talk with the Nation later this week.
"For the time being, let me sincerely thank everyone who has put up so much effort to see me reelected. I express my gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris for her exceptional collaboration throughout this entire endeavor. And allow me to thank the American people from the bottom of my heart for their faith and Thank you for your trust.
"I firmly believe, as I have always done, that nothing is impossible for the United States of America—as long as we work together. We just need to keep in mind that we are one nation."
