The public is reacting negatively to Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham for allegedly holding a user who disparaged her.
Abraham, however, has refuted the allegations, stating that she never unlawfully detained the person or the mother and that she is willing to die for the matter.
On July 10, 2024, the actress addressed the rapidly spreading charges on Instagram Live, emphasizing that, in contrast to the rumors, she did not arrest anyone's mother.
"You can't falsely accuse me of anything and expect me to stay silent, even if I swore I wasn't going to say anything further. I have a mother too, so I wouldn't arrest anyone's mother.
"I never took a person's mom. They continue to harass me even though I haven't done anything wrong and have merely used my democratic rights, Abraham said.
Abraham expressed her severe displeasure with the internet criticism she had received, hinted at extreme distress, and declared her readiness to die, taking those who abuse or defame her with her.
"I took to social media to plead with people to please leave me alone. I want to die like I am. I'm prepared to pass away, but many of you bullies will perish with me first. I've been driven nuts by your bullying, and I'm at my breaking point.
"I came out to beg you; I did not commit any crimes; I just want to die now." I just wanted to let you all know that I didn't take any money from anyone," she said.
Several celebrities have responded to the incident, including Mr. Macaroni, who cautioned against locking up or intimidating fellow residents with his celebrity and power.
"I hope those of you supporting this abuse of power won't cry foul when you or your loved ones are the victims," the skit creator wrote in a post on his X profile. To be clear, this does not condone harassment and bullying that occurs online.
Macaroni declared, "I vehemently condemn it and think those involved should be made to face the consequences of their actions."
Being a victim myself, I am aware of the psychological harm it may cause. Yet, go to court and demand justice as though the remainder of us. Don't illegally detain citizens by using your government friends as leverage.
Although everything could be going your way right now, consider the day when you won't have that power or the proximity to it. It may be someone you care about instead of you. If everyone decides to enforce the law on their own, what will become of us?
