Says Atiku and Obi, the Dangote Refinery Saga is Troubling Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi

The presidential candidates for 2023, have expressed their profound concern over the ongoing dispute between Dangote Industries and some government institutions regarding the operationality of the former's refinery.

In a different post on the X handle, they expressed their regret that the ongoing scandal that is demonizing the Dangote refinery will discourage important foreign direct investment and harm the country's economy. The Dangote refinery is too important to fail, given its critical role in the welfare of the country, according to Atiku, Obi, and Obi, who also stated that government agencies must help the refinery.


Aliko Dangote, President of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the Dangote Group (NMDPRA) and Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) were embroiled in a complex legal battle that involved claims of monopoly, the refinery's supply of crude, the importation of inferior fuel, and control of blending facilities in Malta.


But in response, former vice president Atiku wrote in his post, "It's concerning that @AlikoDangote and @NMDPRA_Official are at odds." The largest private investment in our country, the Dangote Refinery, is essential to Nigeria's economic and energy security. Our energy demands and economic stability depend on the 650,000 bpd refinery, and NNPCL's investment highlights this fact. We run the danger of discouraging important foreign direct investment if we ignore this. An investor-untrusting country will not have any major assets. It is crucial to safeguard large investments like Dangote's in order to draw in foreign direct investment and spur economic expansion.

Obi, "The recent conflicts between Dangote Industries and some government agencies are deeply troubling," he said on his behalf. Personal grudges and political connections are not relevant to this subject. The economy, future, and welfare of Nigeria's people are at the center of it all. In light of Alhaji Dangote's noteworthy contributions to Nigeria, it is imperative that these disagreements be settled quickly.

In addition to stating that government agencies should be directed to provide the necessary support for the smooth launch and operation of the Dangote Refinery and its associated enterprises, Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, added that the refinery has the potential to create over 100,000 jobs and generate approximately $21 billion in revenue annually, among many other positive effects on the economy.

It is crucial from a strategic standpoint to solve Nigeria's fuel crisis, increase foreign exchange revenues, and promote economic growth. Given its critical role in our country's wellbeing, the refinery is too important to fail and shouldn't be hampered.


It is imperative that the Federal Government and its agencies acknowledge the importance of Dangote's contributions. Alhaji Dangote is a national, not just a businessman and African trademark representing dedication, patriotism, and successful business. In spite of the difficult business climate in which he operates, he has built an impressive industrial center in Nigeria that spans more than fifteen industries, including real estate, mining, transportation, rice, rice, petrochemicals, infrastructure, tomatoes, sugar, salt, and fertilizer. Notwithstanding obstacles, Alhaji Dangote's unrelenting commitment to Nigeria's industrialization, job creation, and economic progress merits our complete support and protection.
