Mr. Philip Shaibu, the impeached deputy governor of Edo State, has been restored to his position by the Federal High Court located in Abuja.
The court ruled in Justice James Omotosho's ruling that the Edo State House of Assembly's attempted impeachment of him was unlawful, unconstitutional, and void.
According to the ruling, the 1999 Constitution, as amended, sections 188 and 35 were flagrantly violated by the aforementioned impeachment.
In addition to returning him to his position as Deputy Governor, the court ruled that he should receive all of his income from the time of his illegitimate impeachment on April 8 until the end of his term.
The court declared in The court maintained that the Edo Assembly's excuse for impeaching the plaintiff was flimsy and smacked of an ochestrated political vendetta. It also issued an order of perpetual injunction prohibiting Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Edo State House of Assembly from preventing Shaibu from carrying out the duties of his office. The court also ordered the Inspector General of Police to promptly restore all of his security details.
