FIFA Ranking: Super Falcons Hold 36th Place Worldwide, First In Africa According to the most recent FIFA World Ranking, the Super Falcons of Nigeria remained in 36th place.
On Friday, August 16, 2024, the website of the world football governing body announced the most recent ranking.
The Falcons remain the top team in Africa, with South Africa's Banyana Banyana coming in second.
The Falcons' standing did not come as a surprise after their miserable showing in the Paris Olympics this summer.
In a group that included Olympic finalists Brazil, Japan, and world winners Spain, the squad came in last.
The Falcons lost both their opening match against Brazil and their match against Spain by the same score.
They lost, and the match against Japan also ended in defeat. They ended their disappointing Olympic comeback with a 3-1 loss.
Zambia, Africa's other delegate to the Paris conference, rose in the rankings to 62nd position.
Similar to the Falcons, the Zambians in their second Olympics lost all three of their group matches.
Tunisia, ranked 58th, and South Africa, now ranked 50th, are two other African teams who have advanced.
The United States of America, the gold medallists in the Paris Olympics, took back the top spot. Brazil, who won the silver medal, also climbed up to eighth place, while Spain fell to third.
On December 20, 2024, the FIFA women's world ranking will be revealed.
