Joshua Will Defeat Fury in Boxing, Says Alvarez

Boxing sensation Saul "Canelo" Alvarez of Mexico believes Anthony Joshua will win if the eagerly anticipated bout between the British-Nigerian and Tyson Fury takes off.

Even after Oleksandr Usyk defeated both British heavyweight champions, the possibility of an all-British fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury continues to be one of the most talked-about matchups in the boxing world.

The battle has long been anticipated by fans, who think it will finally resolve the question of who the greatest heavyweight of their generation is.

Alvarez was asked who he believed would prevail if the two former champions ever faced off in a recent interview with DAZN Boxing. Canelo immediately lent his support to the team that was thought to be the underdog.

"Joshua," the undefeated champion of super middleweights replied.

The fight has evoked memories of other high-profile boxing matchups that took years to arrange, like the notorious 2015 Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao showdown.

Even though the bout finally took place, it was generally believed to have been too late because both combatants had passed their peak.

Given the history of failed negotiations in the Joshua-Fury fight, the same thing might happen here.

But with both heavyweights looking to defend their world titles in their next fights—Fury vs. Usyk for the WBO, WBA, and WBC belts, Joshua against Daniel Dubois for the IBF title—the stage may be set for a thrilling rematch.

If they both win, boxing fans may finally get to see the incredible match that has been developing for years. And based on Canelo's prediction, Joshua might have the upper hand in what would be one of the biggest heavyweight fights in the annals of contemporary boxing.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event. After the Games, SWAN questioned why there were so many claims of medal hauls that administered by the sports authorities despite their full knowledge that nothing, not even the amount of preparation necessary to ensure a podium finish, was in place. Nigerians were led to believe that ev...
