According to reports, herdsmen in the Kwara State local government area of Ajelanwa, Asa, killed farmer Mr. Solomon Dabuu.
During plenary, Hon. Yinusa Oniboki, a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, announced the news on the House floor.
The legislature has called for the resurrection of the Herder-Farmers Committee in each of the state's sixteen local government areas in response to this development.
According to the congressman, the farmer in Ajelanwa was slain in a fight with some herdsmen whose cows had eaten the deceased's crops.
Order VII, Rule 40 of the House Rules was the means by which Oniboki had alerted his colleagues to the unsightly incident that took place at Ajelanwa, close to Aboto Oja, and the necessity of stopping the crisis from getting worse.
According to credible accounts, a few days ago, some herders brought their cattle to a farm in Ajelanwa so they could eat the crops grown there. Unbeknownst to them, the farmer, Mr. Solomon Dabuu, who was nearby, was observing as the livestock were eating his crops. He told the House as much. He was reported to have approached the herders and challenged them, which sparked a fight in which the farmer was fatally stabbed with a machete.
He continued by saying that the herders left their about 40 livestock behind and ran from the scene According to Oniboki, the culprits of the heinous deed have been apprehended and are being held in police custody at the Asa local government area headquarters, Afon.
In order to stop the problem from getting worse, the legislators urged the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to give the chiefs of the security agencies in the state the go-ahead to strengthen security measures around the Ajelanwa-Aboto Oja axis in the Afon district of the Asa local government area.
Additionally, they instructed the state's sixteen local government districts to revive the Herder-farmers Committee in order for it to carry on mediating disputes between farmers and herdsmen.
