Jeremiah Stephen, 24, has been taken into custody by the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Stephen specializes in using POS machines to withdraw cash or buy products for unsuspecting victims and then initiating fictitious money transfers.
The culprit was accused of stealing N500,000.00 from clients when he was apprehended in the state's Michika local government area.
In the course of questioning by DSC Amidu Nyako, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC State Command, the suspect admitted to defrauding individuals out of N500,000.00 in Michika and Yola.
The suspect said that his physical condition caused him to commit the crime, and he promised never to do it again. He also encouraged those who are nursing to get involved in the act to stop as lying is not profitable.
In response, PRO NSCDC State Command, DSC Amidu Nyako, urged business owners and point-of-sale operators to double-check any money transfers into their accounts prior to releasing goods and processing customer payments, while also praising the efforts of the Corps' Michika Divisional Officer, DSC Hajara Usman, in apprehending the suspect.
He claimed that a comprehensive inquiry has been ordered to prosecute the suspect by Ibrahim Mainasara, the State Commandant of the Corps.
