Twenty Medical Students Abducted On Thursday night, a house officer and roughly 20 medical and dental students from two institutions were kidnapped by armed men in Benue State.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the students were traveling to Enugu State for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention when the incident occurred.
According to information obtained, the victims include students from the Universities of Jos (UNIJOS) and Maiduguri (UNIMAID), who were ambushed by the gunmen at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the Benue State local government area of Otukpo while traveling to Enugu.
In a phone call with our correspondent, Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State police, confirmed the occurrence but withheld details, stating that an investigation was still underway.
Giving a breakdown, the second vice president 20 medical students—12 from the University of Jos and 8 from the University of Maiduguri—were abducted while traveling to a conference hosted by the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu, according to Dr. Ushakuma Anenga of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) during a phone interview.
"The incident between Otukpo and Enugu happened in the evening. To guarantee their freedom and safe return, we are collaborating closely with the government and security services of Benue State.
