CAF Awards: Lookman, Nnadozie, Super Falcons Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and Senate



 President Godswill Akpabio congratulated Ademola Lookman, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and the Super Falcons on their victories at the 2024 CAF Awards on Monday in Marrakech, Morocco.



Nnadozie and the Super Falcons won Women's Goalkeeper of the Year and Women's National Team of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Ademola, the forward for Atalanta, was named CAF Men's Player of the Year.

"I wish to congratulate one of our finest football players and an international superstar, Ademola Lookman," Akpabio said in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, praising Lookman's extraordinary abilities and capabilities.
on his merited CAF Men's Player of the Year award.

"I also want to congratulate Chiamaka Nnadozie, our friendly and gifted Super Falcons goalie, who has received the Women's Goalkeeper of the Year title for the second year in a row. Young Nigerian girls who want to succeed in sports are inspired by her exceptional achievement.

"I also want to congratulate the Super Falcons on winning Women's National Team of the Year. This accomplishment shows the team's tenacity, cooperation, and dedication to quality.
"These honors are a testament to our country's abundance of athletic skill as well as a great moment for Nigerian football. It is a privilege to have such outstanding athletes represent Nigeria internationally.

He went on to say, "Under my leadership, the Senate and the National Assembly would continue to support sports through enabling laws and adequate appropriations to harness all the hidden talents in the nation."

Based on her dedication to her work, Governor Uzodimma has called Nnadozie a true ambassador of Imo State, Nigeria, and Africa.

SWAN: Team Nigeria's appalling performance at the Paris Olympics is unacceptable.

The performance of Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic Games has been characterized as significantly below expectations by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). Through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin issued a statement stating that Nigeria's failure to return from the recently concluded Olympics with a medal was unacceptable. The Association blamed the country's enormous failure in Paris on administrative incompetence and ignorance, which became evident when the name of Favour Ofili, a highly regarded track and field athlete from Nigeria, was discovered to be missing from the list of competitors for the 100-meter event.
