Mustapha Adio, also known as Tafa Sego, the chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, declared on Monday that Yetunde Amole, the state's assaulted female driver, would receive justice.
Adio made this disclosure when he received the lady during a meeting at the union’s office in Oko Oba, Agege area of the state.
Amole, who arrived at the union headquarters earlier in the day, was warmly received and ushered into the chairman’s office.
Remember how last week, in the Ajah region of the state, a lout known as Friday Onu was seen assaulting a female driver in a widely shared video?
She claims that Onu was attempting to steal the battery from her car when she caught him and confronted him. He then attacked her violently, beating her, tearing her clothes, and dragging her.
Nigerians took pity on the video, with many denouncing the behavior of Onu, who was thought to be a union member.
However, following the altercation with Amole, the lout was taken into custody by Lagos State Police Command officers from the Maroko Division. Due to his illness, he was subsequently transferred to Falomo Police Hospital.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, stated that as soon as police medical experts deemed Onu competent to stand trial, he would be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction.
The head of NURTW responded, saying, "We will make sure that Yetunde Amole receives justice in this case. Others will be strongly cautioned not to harass any drivers in the state as a result.
Sego also emphasized the union's zero tolerance for harassment of its members and urged the public to respect drivers' fundamental human rights.
He explained that the perpetrator is a well-known local boy who is not associated with the NURTW, not a member of the organization.
Sego reaffirmed NURTW's dedication to professionalism and emphasized that Members have received training on how to interact with the public in a responsible and courteous manner.
In addition, he expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and Police Command for the suspect's prompt arrest and promised the union's unwavering support in seeing that justice is done.
