The signing of the four tax bills would mark the beginning of a daring new era of economic governance in Nigeria and for its people, according to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, Tinubu revealed. According to him, tax reforms go beyond streamlining tax codes, noting that they would deliver the first major, pro-people tax cuts. “In a few hours, I will sign four landmark tax reform bills into law, ushering in a bold new era of economic governance in our country. “These reforms go beyond streamlining tax codes. They deliver the first major, pro-people tax cuts in a generation, targeted relief for low-income earners, small businesses, and families working hard to get by," he said. The Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill, he continued, will consolidate Nigeria's disjointed tax structure, remove unnecessary duplications, reduce red tape, regain investor trust, and solidify transparency and coordination at all levels. The four tax bills have been a topic of discussion since President Tinubu sent them to the National Assembly on October 3, 2024, and the president had previously stated he would sign them on Thursday.
