A High Court in Apo, Abuja, has remanded Senator Benson Konbowei, who is currently serving, to Kuje Correctional Center for suspected forgery of the NYSC exemption certificate. On March 26, 2024, the Bayelsa Central Senator was arraigned before Justice Christopher Oba. The Inspector General of Police charged Konbowei with fraudulently forging a document named "Certificate of Exemption" with number 000256454 and dated July 4, 2008, in the case designated CR/028/2023. According to the police, the Senator violated the Penal Code Act (CAP 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990) Sections 366, 156, and 158, and was subject to penalty under Section 364 of the same Act. When the Senator was first charged earlier on Tuesday, he entered a not guilty plea to the allegations.
